Which work supports the role you want?

Start with the kind of engineering responsibility you want to demonstrate. A platform role may benefit from a migration or reliability account. A product engineering role may need a user-facing feature explained from constraint to implementation. Pick the work that gives you something specific to discuss.

• Can the reader identify your own contribution within a team project?
• Is there a decision you can explain beyond the list of technologies?
• Can you link to code, a test or a technical note that supports that account?

Help a reader get into the work

GitHub’s job-search guidance recommends selecting relevant projects and making them easy to explore. Curate the entry point: a short description, the evidence worth opening first and a clear account of what is ready to run. Your site can explain the context; the repository can hold implementation detail.

What should stay out of a public portfolio?

Keep secrets, customer records and unapproved employer material out of the public account. A project can still be discussed within approved limits. Clearly label independent or fictional examples so that a reader does not mistake them for shipped employer work.
