Illustrated finished library entry with paneled oak doors and amber glass

The library entry · Providence

Still in Use

Repairs for the doors, windows, and woodwork a building still needs.

Plan a repair

A library door that opens again.

In this sample project, the repaired oak door clears the sill and closes on its latch. The old glass and sound panels stay in place. The library gets the entrance it knows, with a repair the next joiner can locate.

  1. SurveyFind the damage and test how the piece works.
  2. TreatAgree what to keep and where sound wood begins.
  3. ReturnTest the fit and leave the owner a treatment note.
Theo Bell in his workshop

Providence, Rhode Island

I’m Theo Bell.

I restore architectural woodwork that still has a job to do. Doors have to swing, windows have to close, and someone has to know where the last repair begins. I keep a record with every piece.

Recent workshop studies include a sash with a split meeting rail and a stair handrail polished by a century of hands.

Project inquiries

Tell me what needs to work again.

For a useful first conversation, gather a little context about the piece and how people use it. This example portfolio illustrates the inquiry process.

What to include in a project inquiry
  • A wide photo and a close view of the damaged area.
  • The building location and whether the piece can leave the site.
  • What you need the piece to do after the repair.
